First of all, congratulations! It's an overwhelming, emotional, and joyful time for you! A brand new little life just turned your world upside down in the most wonderful way! Sometimes uncharted territory can be a little scary and with a newborn session coming up, you may feel a little confused about what you need to do to get ready.

My newborn sessions are super laid back and relaxed, scroll down for a few helpful tips and answers to some questions you may have.

session details

When does the session take place?

It is important to have the session within the baby's first 12 days of life, if possible. After two weeks of age, babies are more likely to be disturbed while sleeping, sleep for shorter periods of time, and usually baby acne begins after this time. I do photograph babies up to 4 weeks though, so it's never too late to inquire.

When should I schedule my session?

I recommed booking around your 5th or 6th month of pregnancy, of course the sooner the better, but this is an ideal time. When we first speak we will do a "soft booking". This means we use your due date as your session date, then once you deliver you will contact me and we will schedule your exact session date and time.

How should I prepare my baby for the shoot?

On the morning of the shoot it is advisable to try and keep baby awake for as long as possible before the shoot. After their first morning feeding when they first wake, keep baby stimulated and awake by bathing them, letting them kick and keep moving around. Delay the next feed until just before you leave, leaving enough time to feed baby before traveling to me. Babies take around 20 minutes to fall into a deep, settled sleep, which is perfect for arriving at the studio. Dress baby in a zip or button up one piece, nothing that goes over the head.

What do I need for the session?

There really is very little you will need for the photo shoot, except your gorgeous newborn! I have a wide variety of beautiful, tasteful props, which will incorporate different themes and colors for me to create a variety of different looks. Most photographs are done using my props or nude. I use a space heater to keep baby's body temperature warm throughout the shoot, therefore it can be pretty toasty in the room, so I would advise you wear something lighter or some layers yourself as it can be really warm! If you are bringing another sibling with you please bring something to keep them amused, I have a separate sitting area where they are welcome to sit, hang out, and play.

How long should I plan for my session?

Newborn photoshoots can take anywhere from 1.5-3 hours, depending on how settled baby is. I always allow for at least 3 hours for each newborn photoshoot to ensure there is plenty of time to stop for feeds and changes. Your newborn photo session should be a relaxed and enjoyable experience, baby will always lead the session. If you follow all the advice on here you will maximize the success of your newborn's photo shoot.

Where will the session take place?

Your session will take place in my studio, located in Hutto, TX.
